Goa cop’s son was driving police chief’s car during accident
December 7th, 2009 - 11:29 pm ICT (UTC +0700) by IANSPanaji, Dec 7 (IANS) The Toyota Innova car, which Goa Inspector General of Police (IGP) K.D. Singh’s 18-year-old son rammed into an electricity pole in the wee hours of Dec 5, is in fact officially allotted to the state Director General of Police Bhimsain Bassi.
The vehicle driven by Singh’s son Siddharth, with state power minister Aleixo Sequeira’s son Antonio and three other people as passengers, was badly damaged after it hit an electricity pole, while the occupants were heading towards a pub in Vasco, 35 km from here. Four of the passengers were hurt.
Speaking to reporters Monday police spokesperson Atmaram Deshpande said that he was not aware if Siddharth was examined for drunken driving.
“I am not aware of that. It is not there in the report,” Deshpande said.
The superintendent of police (SP) however said that the police department would initiate a separate departmental enquiry as to how a vehicle allotted to DGP Bassi ended up with the IGP’s son.
“There will be a departmental enquiry into it. The police have already charged Siddharth under sections 297 and 337 of the Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving and causing hurt,” he said.
