New Delhi, June 25 (IANS) A retired Indian Police Service (IPS) officer’s former wife, suffering from breast cancer, Wednesday received relief from the Delhi High Court that directed the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) authorities to provide her medical treatment. The court’s direction to CGHS came during a hearing on the plea of the 70-year-old divorced wife of former IPS officer Jai Kishan Balani, alleging that he had failed to make arrangement for her treatment.

A vacation bench of Justice Ravindra Bhat and Justice Rajiv Shakdher directed Balani’s former wife Vimla to approach the CGHS authorities, which would facilitate her treatment with Herceptine drug by Thursday morning.

Vimla has been taking the anti-cancer drug at least once in a year.

“He (Balani) did not take any steps to see that she gets medical facility through his CGHS cover,” said R.K. Saini, counsel for Vimla.

Balani and Vimla got divorced last year after 50 years of marriage.
