Girl shot dead outside Delhi college (Lead)
March 8th, 2011 - 5:39 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, March 8 (IANS) In a shocking incident, a second year Delhi University student was shot dead outside her college in south Delhi Tuesday morning. Police say the assailant probably knew the victim as there was no attempt to rob her.
Radhika Tanwar, a resident of Naraina area in west Delhi, was shot in her neck outside Ram Lal Anand College in Shantiniketan area in south Delhi at around 9.30 a.m. She succumbed to her injuries at the Safdarjung hospital.
“It is possible that the person who shot her was known to her as there has been no attempt to rob her. He may have been trailing and following her closely for some time,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) H.G.S. Dhaliwal told reporters here.
“There were five to six students near the scene of the crime but they did not realise anything as they thought that someone had burst crackers. He deliberately chose that place because of the congestion and noise in the atmosphere,” added Dhaliwal.
However, minutes later, the crowd saw the collapsed girl with blood oozing out of her neck. There was pandemonium in the area as many ran away from the spot while others stood dazed.
Radhika’s father Rajender Singh said: “I just got a call that my daughter has been shot and then rushed to the Safdarjung Hospital, where they declared her dead. I have no clue what’s happening… the police is refusing to say anything.”
“I don’t know who could have done this to my daughter… she had no enmity with anyone,” the hapless father told reporters outside the hospital.
