Girl set afire for resisting rape
November 5th, 2011 - 11:08 pm ICT by IANSLalitpur (Uttar Pradesh), Nov 5 (IANS) A minor girl in this Uttar Pradesh district was allegedly set afire by a youth for resisting rape, police said Saturday. She is battling for her life in hospital.
The accused youth is absconding.
According to police, the 14-year-old girl, a resident of Lakshmipura area was Thursday set afire by Lalit Soni, 19, of the same area when she resisted his rape attempt.
Acting on the complaint of the victim’s parents, police late Friday registered a case against Soni, who is absconding.
“The girl alleged that Soni caught her while she was in the fields and tried to rape her. After she raised an alarm, Soni torched her and fled from the spot,” Superintendent of Police L.R. Kumar told reporters in Lalitpur, some 300 km from Lucknow.
