Girl kills herself after gangrape, police in denial mode
March 22nd, 2011 - 7:52 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, March 22 (IANS) A Class 9 student Tuesday committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh after she was abducted and gangraped by three men, the girl’s family said. However, police say the girl was not raped, but rather had consensual intercourse with the three men.
Police also claim that the girl was 18 years of age, indicating that she was not a Class 9 student.
According to the family, the girl, a resident of Gadaghat village in Damoh district, over 250 km from here, was abducted Monday.
“She had been abducted by three men - Bhagwan Singh, Ram Singh and Raanu, and raped at the house of Bhagwan Singh. Later, when she came home, she hanged herself,” said Shahab Singh, the girl’s uncle.
He feared that due to the political and social connections of the three men, the police will try to close the case.
“She committed suicide as Kalpani Bai, her neighbour, had seen her with the three men. Kalpani told everything to her parents, that is why she committed suicide,” Damoh Superintendent of Police D.K. Arya told IANS.
