Girl killed for honour
July 4th, 2011 - 10:12 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, June 4 (IANS) A young girl was done to death while her boyfriend was struggling for survival after being attacked in the name of “family honour” in an Uttar Pradesh village.
According to an official spokesman, Hamza and Tahira were beaten “black and blue” when they decided to elope from Soran village in Muzaffarnagar district, about 400 km from here.
They were intercepted by the girl’s relatives, who forcibly brought them back to their native village.
A police complaint lodged by a passer-by said both were beaten for defying the family’s will and abandoned on the outskirts of the village.
While Tahira succumbed to her injuries on way to a Meerut hospital, Hamza was in critical condition .
