Girl injured in acid attack

Kolkata, April 13 (IANS) Miscreants Wednesday threw acid-laden bulbs at a young girl and boy on a motorcycle near the Visva-Bharati campus in West Bengal’s Birbhum district, police said. The girl sustained critical burn injuries.

“We were informed that a girl and a boy were hit by acid by some miscreants in Shyambati Bazar, close to Visva-Bharati campus. Both were former students of Visva-Bharati,” said Bolpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer Biswajit Mahato.

“No complaint has been lodged in this regard so far, but we have initiated an investigation into the matter,” said Mahato.

The girl was rushed to a private hospital in Durgapur.

Visva-Bharati sources said the girl was a former student of the university’s ancient history department, while the boy, Dipak Rajgir, was a former student of Kala Bhavana — Department of Painting and Sculpture. She is the daughter of Subhas Roy, a painting teacher at the varsity’s higher secondary school - Siksha Shatra.
