Girl burnt to death for rejecting marriage proposal
July 24th, 2011 - 12:33 am ICT by IANSBareilly (Uttar Pradesh), July 23 (IANS) A teenaged girl was burnt to death by some locals here for rejecting a marriage proposal, police said Saturday.
The 15-year-old, a native of Khajuria village in Izzatnagar town, was set afire Friday night inside her house. She died on way to hospital.
“The girl’s mother has accused her neighbour and his two-three aides for killing her daughter,” Deputy Superintendent of Police Raj Kumar told reporters in Bareilly, some 250 km from Lucknow.
“The victim’s mother has alleged that her neighbour Harpal wanted the girl to marry his relative. However, even after repeated pleas, when the girl declined to accept the marriage proposal, Harpal along with his aides set her on fire while she was alone in the house,” he added.
However, the victim’s mother is yet to give a written complaint.
“The moment we get the complaint, a case will be registered against the accused,” added Kumar.
