Girl burnt by alleged rapist dies after 13 days
December 17th, 2010 - 8:17 pm ICT by IANSRanchi, Dec 17 (IANS) A girl set afire by her alleged rapist succumbed to her injuries in a hospital in the steel city of Jamshedpur after 13 days Friday, a doctor said.”Despite our best efforts we could not save the victim’s life. She had sustained deep burn injuries,” the doctor told IANS.
The girl was a resident of Baratudi village under Potka police station of the steel city. She was burnt alive Dec 4 by a man who allegedly raped her a few months ago. She had suffered 90 percent burn injuries and was admitted to the Mahatma Gandhi Medical College and Hospital.
The victim was allegedly raped by Nikunj Mandal for which she had lodged a complaint in the Potka police station. But the accused was arrested only after the girl was burnt.
Jamshedpur is the home town of Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda.
