Ghaziabad residents voice green concerns
June 19th, 2011 - 11:37 pm ICT by IANSGhaziabad, June 19 (IANS) People living in Ghaziabad organised a ‘paryawaran’ panchayat Sunday to voice concern over the city’s deteriorating environment.
Former vice chancellor of Meerut University R.B.L. Goswami presided over the meeting and said that citizens could no longer leave the future of the city in the hands of bureaucrats and politicians.
Municipal Councillor Rajendra Tyagi alleged that the government had become a tool in the hands of real estate developers. He alleged thousands of trees died due to dumping of the city’s waste in the Sai Upvan forest.
Paryavarn Sachetak Samiti president Vijay Pal Baghel, the convenor of the meeting, said that the natural course of the Hindon river was being changed to benefit builders at Raj Nagar Extension.
Sanjay Kashyap of the Hindon Vahini announced that the river would be saved at any cost.
Chairman of Resident Welfare Association Federation Ghaziabad Tejandra Pal Tyagi said that there was a crying need to monitor installation and operation of effluent treatment plants in the industries.
