Ghaziabad, May 1 (IANS) In a case of a crime being solved twice over, Ghaziabad police Thursday claimed to have cracked a robbery case where jewellery worth Rs.6 million was looted in January - though the force had made the same claim soon after the incident too. According to police sources, Delhi police Wednesday night arrested two criminals, Asif and Jawed. During interrogation, Asif confessed he had planned to commit a robbery at Laxmi Jewellers in Sahibabad locality of Ghaziabad district.

Delhi Police then informed their counterparts in Ghaziabad. The Sahibabad police soon arrested four criminals, identified as Satya Prakash alias Satte, Bal Kishan, Raj Kumar alias Raju and jeweller Vineet Verma, a resident of Harsh Vihar in Delhi.

They also recovered five rings, five lockets, 12 bangles, three chains and some other small gold ornaments along with two pistols, two knives and 100 grams of heroin from their possession.

Significantly, immediately after the Jan 5 incident, Ghaziabad police had claimed to have solved the case with “the arrest of the criminals involved in the robbery”.

In the second week of January, police arrested five criminals they said were involved in the case and showed recovery of jewellery from their possession along with weapons used in the crime.

At that time, the shop owner had refused to identify the recovered articles saying they were not of his shop but the police discounted his statement.

Circle Officer (Border) S.P. Singh Thursday said the latest arrests were part of the same investigations.
