Ghana to hold forum on water issues
August 5th, 2011 - 12:55 pm ICT by IANSAccra, Aug 5 (IANS) Ghana will hold a forum in the capital to seek ways to deal with issues regarding water sanitation and hygiene, officials said.
The water forum would be held Sep 5-7, WaterAid representative in Ghana, Afia Zakiya, was quoted as saying by Xinhua.
Zakiya told members of the Ghana Water and Sanitation Journalist Network, that the focus of the forum - under the theme “Water and Sanitation Services Delivery in a Rapidly Changing Urban Environment” - was geared towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the Africa Water Vision 2025.
She was hopeful the forum would come out with effective strategies to tackle the increasing demand for water and sanitation services, especially in urban areas.
Ghana’s urban population has experienced rapid growth. It was estimated to have increased by 50 percent in 2010.
The government as well as managers of urban water systems have encountered several challenges with the provision of water and sanitation services for the growing population.
