Facebook Durban, Nov 28 (IANS) In an effort to engage people in environmental issues, the South African government has decided to provide on sites like Facebook and Twitter updates of the United Nations climate change talks that started in Durban Monday.

The Department of Environmental Affairs’ (DEA) has started a climate action campaign to create awareness about climate action and inform the public about events taking place during the Conference of Parties 17 (CoP) Nov 28-Dec 9.

The campaign will use social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to take the proceedings of climate talks to people, said a statement issued by the DEA.

“It is every South African’s responsibility to take action on climate change and supporting a campaign of this nature is a step towards becoming conscious about the need for climate change action,” it added.
