Germany keeper Enke out of World Cup qualifier
October 9th, 2008 - 7:59 pm ICT by IANSDusseldorf (Germany), Oct 9 (DPA) Germany’s goalkeeper Robert Enke has been forced to pull out of Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Russia after injuring his hand in training. His club, Hanover 96, said Thursday that the keeper was injured during training with the national team Wednesday evening. According to Bild newspaper’s website, the keeper has suffered a fracture.
Enke, 31, had played all three of Germany’s matches since Jens Lehmann stepped down from the national team following the Euro 2006 final defeat to Spain.
The injury means coach Joachim Loew will have to choose an uncapped goalkeeper in either Bayer Leverkusen’s Rene Adler or Werder Bremen’s Tim Wiese for the match against Russia in Dortmund.
