New Delhi, Aug 30 (IANS) A celebrity campaign against gender rights violation and sexual harassment of women which began in Mumbai soon after the JW Marriott molestation case is now using music to reach out to people.The campaign called Fight Back was started by Zubin Driver, creative network director of the TV 18 group after a newly-married woman was molested outside the plush hotel in Mumbai on New Year’s eve.
The group will be distributing wallet cards listing the telephone numbers of police stations and women help lines across the country at the two-day Independence Rock Festival in Andheri Aug 30-31.
The group will also distribute music CDs of the signature numbers of the Indian rock bands taking part in the rock festival free of cost to those who visit its stall.
“The tie-up with I-Rock is part of a bigger exercise to push the Fight Back branding,” Zubin Driver told IANS.
Fight Back is endorsed by celebrity personalities like MTV VJs Raghu and Ranvijay, part of the MTV Roadies team, Jeroo Mullah, principal of Sophia College, Mumbai, and noted human rights activist Teesta Setalvad.
Fight Back has also tied up with Café Coffee Day and McDonald’s.
Fight Back also distributed 3,000 wallet cards at the I-Rock festival in Kolkata and Delhi. “Our volunteers visited two schools in Kolkata and the response was overwhelming. We have also distributed 2,000 cards in Delhi,” Driver said.
