Manmohan SinghNew Delhi, Dec 15 (IANS) Newly elected Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Monday said an inquiry has been launched to probe allegations of financial irregularities against former chief minister Vasundhara Raje and her government.”The process of inquiry has already been initiated. I have asked my officials to look into the various allegations against her and her government,” Gehlot told reporters Monday after meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Gehlot met the prime minister to discuss developmental issues of the state, officials said.

Gehlot, however, insisted there was no vindictive agenda in setting up the inquiry against the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government. The Congress wrested Rajasthan from the BJP in the assembly elections.

During the election campaign, the Congress leader alleged that land scams and other financial irregularities had taken place during Raje’s regime.

Gehlot claimed that some BJP leaders were also accusing Raje of irregularities.

“Her own party members have levelled more allegations than the Congress. Even though her MLAs levelled charges against her, the government continued to function,” he said.

On the investigating agency to probe the matter, Gehlot said: “As of now I have asked officials to verify the facts behind the allegations. We have just begun. I have not even formed my cabinet yet.”
