Melbourne, March 1 (IANS) Tasmania fast bowler Brett Geeves will replace Doug Bollinger in the Australian Test squad in South Africa.
Cricket Australia (CA) said Sunday that Bollinger, who was the twelfth man in the ongoing Test against South Africa, suffered an abdominal strain while training.

“Doug Bollinger sustained an abdominal muscle strain on day two of the Test during a training session. “An MRI scan confirmed the presence of a moderate size muscle strain that will effectively rule him out of contention for the second Test against South Africa in Durban,” Australian team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement.

“His progress will be monitored over the next few days to determine his prospects of being available for selection in the third Test,” he added.

Selection panel chairman Andrew Hilditch said: “It is very disappointing for Doug to have suffered this injury during what is such an important tour. However given the injury will rule him out of the second Test in Durban and have him in some doubt for the third in South Africa we have decided to bring Brett Geeves as a stand by cover player in the squad.”

Geeves will join the Australian squad in Johannesburg Monday.
