Gaza, Jan 14 (Xinhua) The death toll in Gaza surpassed 1,000 mark Wednesday with more than 4,600 others injured since Israel launched air and ground offensive in the strip last month.Gaza emergency chief Mo’aweya Hassanein told reporters that so far 1,010 Palestinians have been killed, and 4,600 wounded, adding that around half of them civilians.

Hassanein said 26 Palestinians were killed Wednesday in a series of air and ground strikes on buildings and houses all over the Gaza Strip, mainly on eastern Gaza City and northern Gaza Strip.

Meanwhile, many Israeli cellphone users Wednesday received a message attributed to Hamas warning that death is waiting for Israeli soldiers in warring Gaza Strip.

“Come on into Gaza. Lots of surprises waiting for your sons, the least of which is death. Hamas,” said the text message in English.

The sending cellphone number appears to have a British country code, and calls to the number are answered with an automated message saying that the number is incorrect.

About weeks ago, a Hebrew text message attributed to Hamas was sent to many Israelis, which warned that Israel’s Gaza offensive would incur a massive barrage of rockets against the Jewish state.

Thirteen Israelis have so far died since Israel launched Operation Cast Lead Dec 27, nine of them were soldiers killed in the battle field.
