New Delhi, May 28 (IANS) A garment manufacturer was found dead in his house in east Delhi with his mouth taped and hand and legs tied, police said Saturday.

S.K. Sattar, who hails from West Bengal, was found dead in his five-storeyed building in Gandhi Nagar area.

“His hand and legs were tied and mouth taped. His flat was ransacked,” said a senior police officer. “There were no injury marks on the body.”

Sattar, 35, lived with his family — wife and two kids — on the second floor of the building and had rented out the rest of the floors.

“A few days ago, his family went to West Bengal for a marriage function. Sattar was to join them on May 30,” said the officer.

At around 11.30 p.m. Friday, the victim called his brother S.K. Saidul on phone. After that, he was unreachable, the officer said.

“In the morning, the family, who were unable to contact him over phone, asked one the tenants to check his flat. The tenant found the flat locked,” said the officer.

“The family sensed something amiss, and asked the tenant to call the police,” said the officer.

During preliminary investigation, it was revealed that Sattar had a verbal fight with one of his tenants, Sajjad, living on the fifth floor. He had allegedly not paid the rent for over a year.

“Three days ago, they had a fight over this and had a fight yesterday (Friday) too. Sajjad and his family vacated the flat Friday itself,” said the officer.

Police said that one of the tenants saw Sajjad with two other people near the house early Saturday.

“Sajjad is absconding and we are trying to trace him for questioning,” said the officer.

Sattar owned a kids-wear garment factory and a store.
