Patna, April 21 (IANS) A widow was forced to wear a garland of shoes after her daughter eloped with a boy of a lower caste in Bihar’s Purnia district, police said Tuesday.
Nujera Begum had to wear the garland of shoes Sunday and walk the streets of her village in Purnia district, about 400 km from here, for failing to prevent her daughter from running away with a boy who belonged to a Muslim community that is considered inferior.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Shankar Jha said police have registered a complaint against 19 people. Three of the accused have already been arrested.
