- New Delhi, Nov 3 (IANS) The Delhi High Court issued a notice to the police here Tuesday over the petition filed by underworld don Babloo Srivastava, challenging the charges framed against him under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crimes Act(MCOCA).
Justice V.K. Jain issued a notice to the police and asked them to file their response by Nov 25.
Babloo through his counsel D.B. Goswami challenged the trial court order of Sep 19 in which he was booked under the MCOCA for allegedly running a crime syndicate from 1983 to 1997.
“Babloo was lodged in jail for the past 15 years and since then he was not involved in any other crime,” Goswami, who is demanding that the charges against Babloo be quashed, said.
He was extradited from Singapore in 1995 and is presently in custody at the Bareilly jail in Uttar Pradesh.
The trial court had also booked his close aide Fazal-ur-Rehman under MCOCA. They were charged in 2006.
