Gangster arrested in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, July 9 (IANS) In a joint operation, the Uttar Pradesh Police and the Karnataka Police Monday arrested a member of the notorious Raja Shetty gang here, an official said.

Akash alias Vivek, a sharp shooter of the Raja Shetty gang and a native of Rohaniya village in Varanasi, was arrested as part of operations by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force, a home department official told IANS.

Senior Superintendent of Police, STF, Satyendra Veer Singh led Monday’s operation.

The arrest was made as part of operations of the UP STF against operatives of gangsters like Chhota Rajan, Dawood Ibrahim, Hemant Pujari and Ravi Pujari.

The arrested gangster was involved in crimes in Karnataka, including extortion, kidnappings, murder and supplying of weapons. He was also recruiting new and young members for the Raja Shetty gang.

Karanataka Police were working on formalities of a transit remand for the arrested gangster, an official said.
