Gang pumping fake money in Goa casinos busted
August 1st, 2011 - 7:24 pm ICT by IANSPanaji, Aug 1 (IANS) A racket in which millions of rupees in counterfeit currency were pumped into casino gambling operations has been busted, police said Monday.
Police have arrested three people, including a police sub-inspector and a foreign charter flight attendant, involved in the racket, a police spokesperson said.
“Vaibhav Naik, a sub-inspector attached to the Calangute police station, has been arrested along with Aditya Yadav (32) and Hemant Chodankar (24),” spokesman John Aguair said.
“We are trying to verify whether the seized counterfeit notes were the same which had been seized by police in earlier cases,” he said.
Police sources said that nearly Rs 2.77 lakh had been seized last week, which was the part of the stash collected by the duo and was being pumped into casino operations by the trio posing as gamblers.
“They would pose as gambler and use fake currency to buy casino gambling chips and then encash the chips for real currency notes,” a source said.
