Games Village to be ready by Wednesday: Sheila Dikshit
September 26th, 2010 - 8:38 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Sep 26 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Sunday visited the Commonwealth Games Village to take stock of its maintenance and cleanliness facilities and said all the work will be over by Wednesday.
“I was here to look after the coordination and facilities for players and delegates. About 45 senior officials are stationed here to sort out all problems,” Dikshit told reporters.
She said everything will be ready by Wednesday and about 600 flats will be handed over by Monday.
Union Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrasekhar had directed the Delhi government to take charge of the Commonwealth Games Village after complaints that the complex was “filthy and unlivable”.
The maintenance of the Games Village was until now under the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) which is under the direct control of the union urban development ministry.
The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee is the overall in-charge of the Games Village, while the Delhi government will look after issues of maintenance and cleanliness.
These two aspects have been sharply criticised by foreign participants as well as Commonwealth Games Federation Chief Executive Mike Hooper.
