‘Fun’ call on 26/11 terrorists’ mobile proves costly
January 17th, 2009 - 7:22 pm ICT by IANSBhopal, Jan 17 (IANS) Calls made on two mobile numbers being used by the 26/11 terrorists “just for fun” has landed a property dealer and his two relatives in deep trouble.Property dealer Amjad Khan, 44, and his two brothers-in-law Anis and Rais were arrested Friday by the Madhya Pradesh police from Satna district on information provided by Mumbai police. They have been sent to judicial custody.
“Two missed calls were found on the cell phones used by the terrorists from the cell phone numbered 09630566557. The information was passed on to Madhya Pradesh police by their Mumbai counterparts.
“The police swung into action and traced the user, Amjad Khan, who first denied having made any such calls but later admitted that his children had dialled the numbers while a news channel was flashing them during the live coverage of the terror attack,” a police official said.
Amjad Khan’s troubles increased when the police found that his cell number was registered in the name of a woman named Savita Kumari Amdari.
Amjad Khan was arrested after he failed to give a satisfactory reply on the phone registration. Later his brothers-in-law, who are involved in the cell phone and SIM business, were also arrested.
“It is not yet confirmed whether Amjad has links with any terrorist organisation. Investigations are in progress,” Satna police superintendant K.D. Parashar said.
