Panaji, Dec 22 (IANS) The French woman, who was Sunday found dead in mysterious circumstances at the coastal village of Vagator, had travelled to Goa from Pakistan, a police official said Monday. The deceased, identified as Bayet Florence of France, was found dead in a trailer parked near Vagator beach, with a companion lying unconscious next to her. He has been identified as Lochy Ammabeffe.

“Amabeffe is recuperating in hospital now. He told us that he had consumed ketamine (a veterinary tranquiliser, often used as a substitute for conventional narcotics substances) in shock, when he learnt that his friend was dead,” a police official said.

He also told the police that the duo had travelled to India over land from Europe in a caravan and had crossed over to India from Pakistan.

“Amabeffe said that they had purchased some drugs from Pakistan. Perhaps they were adulterated or the deceased had an overdose. Only the post mortem will be able to reveal this,” the official said, adding Amabeffe was still groggy and they would question him after he recovers.

Dr Jawahar Henrigues from Vagator, who rushed to the site Sunday, said that Bayet had died even before he reached the spot. “We then called the police and sent for an ambulance,” he said.

Amabeffe is presently being treated at the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.
