France keen to further develop ties with Pakistan
January 30th, 2012 - 9:41 pm ICT by IANSIslamabad, Jan 30 (IANS) French President Nicolas Sarkozy is keen to further develop economic and political relations with Pakistan, the French envoy to Islamabad has said.
Philippe Thiebaud said this at a meeting of the Pakistan-France Business Alliance in Karachi held over the weekend, the Daily Times reported Monday.
Thiebaud said energy was one of the key priorities for cooperation with Pakistan, and that France was helping Pakistan focus on hydropower electricity generation.
The envoy said Pakistan with a population of 180 million has many qualified and skilled people.
He said France recognised the “pivotal role” played by Pakistan in the region as well as the “high price paid by Pakistan in the fight against terror”.
Stating that Pakistan’s economy was affected by the war on terror, Thiebaud said: “It is our wish to contribute to alleviate those concerns and be more active in the economic area.”
