Four students killed, 15 injured as train rams autorickshaw
January 15th, 2011 - 1:03 pm ICT by IANSChandigarh, Jan 15 (IANS) At least four school students were killed and 15 injured when an autorickshaw they were riding in collided with a train in a dense fog at a railway crossing in Punjab’s Ferozepur district Saturday morning, police said. The victims were all under 10 years of age and belonged to Chandimaara village. They were rushed to hospitals in Jalalabad and Ferozepur.
Officials said the accident took place at an unmanned railway crossing near Jalalabad town, 300 km from here, because visibility was poor in the dense fog at that morning hour.
The train was going from Ferozepur to Fazilka town in Punjab.
Police did not rule out the possibility that the autorickshaw driver was trying to rush to reach school in time.
