Four South Korean marines killed in shooting spree
July 4th, 2011 - 6:21 pm ICT by IANSSeoul, July 4 (IANS) Four South Korean marines were killed in a shooting incident that occurred on the Ganghwa island, west of Seoul, Monday morning, Xinhua reported.
The incident occurred when a marine corporal opened fire at six of his fellow marines around 11.50 a.m. Monday, leaving three of them dead and three injured on the spot, the report added.
The toll rose to four after one of the three wounded died in hospital, the defense ministry said.
The corporal, surnamed Kim, was wounded in an apparent suicide attempt, YTN reported, citing military officials.
The perpetrator has been taken into custody on the Ganghwa island. The motive for the shooting remains unknown and the incident is being investigated, said local media.
