Four Punjab cops booked for extortion

Ferozepur, March 7 (IANS) Four Punjab policemen have been booked for extorting money from a man after threatening to implicate him in false cases at a check-post here last month, police said Monday.

Bhola Singh, a resident of Mansa village, in Punjab’s Bathinda district was travelling to Abohar town in Ferozepur district in his car Feb 24 when the incident took place.

On his way, he had given lift to a woman and when he reached near the town, he was stopped at the police check-post.

“Four policemen, who were deployed at the check-post, doubted the woman’s character and threatened Singh to implicate him in false cases. They took Rs.55,000 from him before letting him go,” a police officer said.

“Bhola sent a written complaint to Ferozepur district chief and an enquiry was conducted. We have booked a case against two head constables and two constables. Investigations are on,” he added.

Ferozepur is over 250 km from state capital Chandigarh.
