Four killed, several under debris as building collapses
January 27th, 2010 - 4:45 pm ICT by IANS ( Leave a comment )Bangalore, Jan 27 (IANS) At least four people were killed, many injured and several under debris when a five-storey under-construction building in Bellary in north Karnataka collapsed late Tuesday, police said Wednesday.
The dead included a student as part of the building fell on an adjacent students’ hostel. Bellary is around 300 km from Bangalore.
A National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team from Pune, Maharashtra, has joined rescue operations to bring out around 30 people, mostly labourers, still under the debris, Bellary Deputy Commissioner B. Shivappa told reporters.
Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa Wednesday announced Rs.100,000 compensation for the families of each of those dead.
