Four killed in Uttar Pradesh accident
June 30th, 2010 - 12:00 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, June 30 (IANS) Four people were killed and eight critically injured when a car ran over them in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district while they were attending to a motorcyclist injured in an accident, police said Wednesday.
The Tavera car late Tuesday ran into the group of men attending to the motorcyclist who was hurt after colliding with a bullock cart in Bhawanipur village.
“The driver of the car escaped after leaving the car a few metres away from the accident site,” police inspector Yadvendra Tiwari told reporters in Unnao, 65 km from here.
“The injured are being treated at a hospital. Their condition is stated to be serious.”
According to police, the number plate of the vehicle indicates that it was registered with the Regional Transport Office (RTO) at Lucknow.
“We have sent a team to Lucknow. We have also sought assistance from the RTO officials in order to ascertain the owner of the car,” said Tiwari.
