Four killed in Jharkhand road accident

Ranchi, April 6 (IANS) Four people were killed Sunday when a truck ran over them in Dhanbad district of Jharkhand, the police said. The accident took place at Rajganj village, 270 km from here. A group of 10 people was crossing the Grand Trunk (GT) road when a truck laden with vegetable coming from Kolkata crushed them.

Three people died on the spot while one succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. The condition of one of the injured is said to be critical, a police official said.

Angry villagers blocked the GT road for more than three hours, demanding compensation to family members of the victims and arrest of the truck driver.

The police seized the truck but the driver and his assistant managed to escape from the spot, the police said.
