Four killed in Chandigarh accident
June 19th, 2011 - 2:06 am ICT by IANSChandigarh, June 19 (IANS) Four people, part of a religious procession, died after they were mowed down by a private bus here Saturday night, police said.
Following the accident in Sector 28, agitated members of the procession set the bus on fire and also indulged in minor street violence.
“A religious procession was passing through when the accident happened. A private bus, belonging to a Punjab group of colleges, crushed four people. They were immediately taken to a hospital but they succumbed to their injuries. Four other people also sustained serious injuries and they were admitted at a government hospital here,” said a Chandigarh police official.
Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Police personnel have been deployed at the accident spot and at the hospital, he added.
A case has been registered in this connection.
