Four killed in auto-rickshaw, train collision

Ropar (Punjab), Feb 16 (IANS) Four people were killed and two others injured when an auto-rickshaw collided with a passenger train at an unmanned railway crossing in Punjab Saturday. The accident took place on the Ropar-Nangal railway track at Alipur village, near here.
Those dead included two women, a man and a 10-year-old girl. The auto-rickshaw driver was seriously injured in the accident. All the victims were going to attend a wedding.
Witnesses told the police that the auto-rickshaw tried to cross the railway track just as the train was approaching. The train hit the vehicle and dragged it over several metres. The auto-rickshaw was completely smashed in the accident.
The railway police have registered a case against the auto-rickshaw driver, Sukhdeep Singh. He told the police that the accident happened as the brakes of his vehicle had failed.
