Four killed, four injured as car rams into tree
March 17th, 2011 - 9:32 pm ICT by IANSBahraich (Uttar Pradesh), March 17 (IANS) Four people, including three children, were killed and four others were critically injured when an SUV rammed into a tree on the outskirts of this Uttar Pradesh town Thursday, police said.
The accident took place when the driver was negotiating a sharp turn and a motorcycle appeared from the opposition direction, police said.
“Apparently, the vehicle was at a high speed. So the driver lost control and went head-on into a tree leaving four dead and four injured,” police official Tripurari Diwakar told IANS.
“While three people, including two children, died on the spot, another child succumbed to the injuries in the district hospital,” the official said.
The family of the victims alleged “gross apathy” of the local administration.
“The bodies of the dead were left unattended on the road for nearly three hours and were sent for post-mortem only later in the evening,” complained Sajjan, a family member.
