Four killed as van with marriage party plunges into well

Mumbai, April 8 (IANS) A van carrying a marriage party skidded off the road and plunged into a well killing four people, including two infants, and injuring 12 others near Malegaon, 480 km north of Mumbai, Tuesday morning. According to Malegaon rural police, the Tata Sumo van (MH-15-K-2593) with the bridegroom was proceeding for the wedding ceremony at the nearby Shirpur village when the mishap occurred.

The van was carrying 16 persons, including the driver, well beyond its capacity when the accident occurred on the state highway around 6 a.m.

Those killed were Raju Bhide, 30, and his three-year-old son Ganesh, Mina Ahire, 35, and two-year-old Khushi Dalvi. While Raju and his son were residents of Ulhasnagar, near Mumbai, Mina was from Nandgaon and Khushi from Nashik.

The condition of some of the injured, including bridegroom Arvind Dalvi, 24, is stated to be serious. They were taken to Jeevan Hospital in Manmad, assistant sub-inspector of Malegaon rural police V.M. Gaikwad said.
