Four jail guards arrested for undertrial’s escape

Jalandhar (Punjab), May 12 (IANS) Four jail security guards have been arrested for negligence that led to an undertrial’s escape from the civil hospital here, police said here Thursday.

According to police, the security guards were arrested late Wednesday and they have been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code. Jalandhar city is around 150 km away from state capital Chandigarh.

“Harpreet Singh was arrested a few weeks back for drug smuggling. He was admitted to Jalandhar civil hospital and on Tuesday night he escaped after giving the cops a slip,” said a police official here.

“The departmental inquiry found the four jail security guards of being negligent in their duty. They were stationed right outside the ward room of Harpreet and still the accused managed to run away. They were arrested Wednesday evening.”
