Raipur, April 29 (IANS) Four people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a Class 1 boy last week from Chhattisgarh’s industrial town Raigarh, a senior police official said Friday.

Himanshu Sahu, 6, the son of an engineer, was abducted April 21 while he was waiting for his school bus. He was dropped off the same night, and helped in identifying his kidnappers.

“The kidnappers have been arrested. They wanted a massive ransom amount but they failed to execute the plan,” Rahul Sharma, superintendent of police, Raigarh, told reporters.

More arrests were likely, he added.

Himanshu, who was enrolled in a Jindal Group school in Raigarh, was kidnapped by masked men while he was waiting at the bus stop with his friends. The kidnappers bundled the boy into a car, and immediately called his father, demanding a ransom of Rs.3 million.

However, the kidnappers dropped him off at midnight the same day after police barricaded several key roads and sealed off Raigarh district in a bid to track them down.

Sharma said the four arrested men were paraded before Himanshu Friday and the boy identified them.
