Four Haryana devotees die as car plunges into canal
September 6th, 2011 - 3:09 pm ICT by IANSLucknow, Sep 6 (IANS) Four pilgrims, including two women, from Haryana drowned when their car fell into a canal in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district Tuesday, police said.
Five pilgrims were injured in the accident took place along the Delhi-Paudi route when the Tavera carrying the pilgrims to a pilgrimage centre near Uttarakhand’s Haridwar plunged into the canal.
“We managed to rescue the five devotees with the help of locals. Those drowned include two women. The injured are being treated at the district hospital,” police inspector Ram Parasad told reporters in Bijnor, 350 km from here.
Police said the victims are residents of Faridabad district in Haryana.
