Four drowned in Maharashtra

Mumbai, March 23 (IANS) Four members of a family from Mumbai Sunday drowned in the Nira river in Satara district in Maharashtra where they had gone to perform a religious ritual, police said. Sachin Agavane, 26, his wife Smita, 24, and his brothers Anand, 23, and Lavin, 19, - all from Dharavi in central Mumbai - drowned near the Bimadevi temple in Kambleshwar village, around 350 km from here, when they stepped in the river to immerse flower offerings after completing a Holi-related puja, a Satara police official told IANS over telephone.

The incident took place at 5 p.m., police said, adding that their bodies would be brought to Mumbai Monday.
