Four devotees die in Uttar Pradesh accident
April 6th, 2011 - 1:00 pm ICT by IANSRae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh), April 6 (IANS) At least four devotees, including three women, were killed when a speeding truck rammed into their SUV here, police said Wednesday.
Ten people were injured in the accident that took place late Tuesday in Gurbakshganj town when the truck ploughed into the SUV carrying the devotees from Lodeshwar Temple in Barabanki district.
“Four devotees died while being taken to hospital,” police inspector R.P. Yadav told reporters Wednesday in Rae Bareli, some 80 km from Lucknow.
“Of the 10 others, the condition of five is stated to be serious,” he added.
“Those in the car were of the same family and had gone to Lodeshwar temple to attend a religious function from their native place in (Uttar Pradesh’s) Fatehpur district,” he said.
According to police, the truck driver escaped after the accident.
“We have seized the truck,” Yadav said.
