August 6th, 2011 - 11:34 pm ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS) Four people including two family members and two policemen were killed while seven bystanders were seriously injured early Saturday in an accident involving five vehicles, including two trucks and a police patrol car, police said.
Vijay Singh, 45, his nephew Pawan, 25, constable Pawan Kumar, 21, and head constable Desraj, 50, were crushed between two of the five vehicles.
While Singh and his nephew died on the spot, the two police personnel succumbed to injuries at the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital, said police.
“The accident took place in west Delhi’s Mayapuri area at around 5 a.m. when a Tata 407 tempo hit Pawan’s Wagon R car from behind. Failing to reach a settlement, Pawan called his uncle who reached the spot in an auto-rickshaw,” said a police official.
Meanwhile, two policemen arrived at the site in a Police Control Room (PCR) van. The auto-rickshaw and the van were parked in front of the vehicles involved in the accident.
As the group was engaged in discussions, a speeding truck rammed the tempo from behind resulting in a chain reaction crash involving five vehicles.
“The injured included the auto driver, the owner and driver of the tempo and his two sons and some bystanders,” a police official said.
“We have located the owner of the truck while its driver is absconding,” the official said.
