Four dead as overloaded boat capsizes in Bihar
June 14th, 2011 - 10:41 pm ICT by IANSPatna, June 14 (IANS) At least four people were killed and 11 were missing after a boat carrying 35 people capsized in the Paran river in Bihar’s Araria district Tuesday, police said.
Twenty people managed to swim to safety and a search was on for the missing people. “Search and rescue operations are on,” a police official said. A district administration official said four bodies have been recovered.
The boat, with a capacity of only 15, was overcrowded, police said. It was going from Mohanpur to Rampur when the accident occurred in Araria, about 350 km from Patna.
