Jalgaon (Maharashtra), April 24 (IANS) Four school children, on a picnic, drowned Thursday in Mehrun lake here in Maharasthra, the police said. The children, in the age group of 10-15, were among eight who had gone for a swim in the lake maintained by the municipal corporation.
The tragedy occurred when one of them, 10-year old Sagar Sukhdeo Raulkar, slipped in the slush while walking into the lake followed by three others who tried to save him.
Seeing the three - Amol Sukhdeo Raulkar, Vikas Shantaram Patil and Rakesh Suresh Khairnar - drowning, the remaining four informed their relatives.
By the time the civic authorities rushed the fire brigade personnel to the lake, the children’s bodies had been fished out by the people gathered at the spot with the help of the police.
This is the second incident of drowning in a fortnight here. Earlier this month, two children had drowned in the lake, which has no protective wall or security guard posted.
