Bangalore, Oct 3 (IANS) Four people were arrested Friday in Karnataka’s coastal city of Mangalore on suspicion of having links with Indian Mujahideen which has claimed responsibility for the recent bomb blasts in various cities across India.Five crude bombs, computer hard discs containing jehadi literature, several mobile phones, sim cards and Rs.739,000 in cash were seized from them and their associates, the police said.
The arrested are Mohd Ali, 56, a property dealer, his 20-year-old son Javed Ali, a student of Quranic studies, Naushad, 25, a construction worker, and Ahmed Bawa, 33, A. M. Prasad inspector general of police told reporters in Mangalore Friday evening.
Several others have been detained for questioning, police sources said.
“We are also ascertaining the nature of work Bawa was engaged in as he has not given clear information on it,” they said.
The Karnataka police, the state Anti-Naxal Force and Mumbai Police jointly raided several places in and around Mangalore, about 350 km from Bangalore, early Friday and picked up 11 suspects for questioning.
Four of them have been formally arrested for having links with Indian Mujahideen and in connection with series of explosions in several parts of India, Prasad said.
