New Delhi, Dec 14 (IANS) Four people, including two former students of Ramjas College, were arrested for their involvement in a fake admission racket in the Delhi University college, police said Wednesday.

Naresh and Rohit Lamba, former Ramjas students, along with Sitta and Kuldeep were arrested Tuesday, five days after four youths were arrested in the case.

Students of Hindi (Honours), Naresh and Lamba had left the college before completing their graduation.

The gand leader — Naresh hailing from Rewari, Haryana, owns a restaurant in Kamla Nagar that adjoins Delhi University and is a resident of west Delhi’s Dwarka.

“Naresh is involved in around 20 fake admissions in Ramjas College. A case of cheating and forgery has been filed against the accused,” said a police official.

According to the police, the gang used to entice students who had scored inadequate marks and promised them admission in general and management quota for a hefty fee.

“Forged marksheets were prepared by scanning the original mark-sheet and then changing the marks according to the requirement. Rs.2 to 6 lakh was charged for every admission,” added the official.

Meanwhile, the police blamed the “ineligible persons” deployed to check the admission documents in the college as being behind the flourishing racket.

“Investigations have revealed that ineligible persons were deployed to verify documents submitted by the students. The scam is clearly a result of the negligence on the part of the college administration,” said a police official.

“Fake admissions could not have been carried out in such a massive scale without connivance of college staff,” added the official.
