Four arrested for trying to extort Rs.20 m from realtor

New Delhi, July 10 (IANS) Four people were arrested for allegedly making extortion calls to a realtor here, the police said Thursday. The real estate egant, Amit Kumar Jha, lodged a complaint with the Crime Branch July 1 that he had received extortion calls on his mobile phone. The callers had demanded Rs.20 million and threatened him with dire consequences.

Kumar again received threatening call demanding the amount be delivered at new parking area near main gate of Lotus Temple in Kalkaji area Wednesday evening.

The pol;ice laid a trap near the place were the transaction was to be held.

Jha delivered the bag purportedly carrying the money to the extortionists and all four people were arrested.

The accused were identified as Neelkanth Kapoor (31), Praveen Kumar (29), Mohan Singh (30) and Onkar Singh (28).

In another case, the police arrested four people and foiled their plan to abduct a west Delhi-based businessman.

Acting on a tip-off, Shamsher Singh Saini (35) and Deepak Ahlawat (23) were arrested from east Janakpuri Metro station July 4, the police said.

During interrogation they revealed the name of two criminals, Manoj Bhandari (42) and Akhtar Hussain (32), who were arrested Tuesday from Ludhiana.

One revolver with six cartridges of .32 bore calibre and one country-made pistol with two live cartridges were recovered from their possession.
