Former Nazi dies in Austria
June 21st, 2011 - 9:19 am ICT by IANSVienna, June 21 (IANS) A former Nazi war criminal has died at the age of 98 in Austria, the Austrian Press Agency (APA) reported.
Milivoj Asner, a former police chief, was accused of murdering hundreds of Serbs, Jews, Sinti and Roma in 1941-1942.
The Croatia-born Asner escaped to Austria after the WWII and lived in the southern city of Klagenfurt under the assumed name of “Georg Aschner”.
In 2005, the Croatian government charged Asner with crimes against humanity and war crimes in the city of Pozega, Slovenia, during World War II.
The Austrian government refused to extradite him to Croatia, saying he was not healthy enough to stand trial.
