Hyderabad, Sep 13 (IANS) Former MP C. Ramchandraiah, who quit the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in July, Saturday joined the newly-floated Prajya Rajyam of Telugu superstar-turned-politician Chiranjeevi. He said he was not joining Praja Rajyam for the sake of posts but was impressed by Chiranjeevi’s ideology. The former Rajya Sabha member said he saw TDP founder N.T. Rama Rao’s qualities in Chiranjeevi.

“I am not interested in posts. I held many posts from district secretary to politburo member,” Ramchandraiah told media persons.

He had resigned from the TDP and the Rajya Sabha membership in July, after admitting ideological difference with party chief N. Chandrababu Naidu.

The backward class leader hailing from Kadapa district said the “callous” attitude of the TDP leadership towards the problems of backward classes and farmers forced him to take the step. He had said that he would join a party wedded to social equality.

Ramachandraiah was a member of the TDP politburo, the party’s highest decision making body.

A chartered accountant by profession, he was associated with the TDP since its inception in early 1980s. He had served as junior minister in then Anchra Pradesh chief minister N.T. Rama Rao’s cabinet. He was elected to the assembly from Kadapa in 1985 and had been a Rajya Sabha member since 1988.
